Petite Sonnerie Carriage Clock with English lever platform escapement

This is a high-quality Petite Sonnerie carriage clock with Grand Sonnerie repeat. This means it strikes ting-tang on 2 gongs for each quarter, and the relevant number of blows at the hour on one gong, but if you press the repeat button it strikes the hours, then a blank 'strike' then the ting-tang quarters; so for example between 2:30 and 2.45 it would strike ting, ting, (blank) ting-tang, ting-tang, and between 2:45 and 3:00 it would have a third ting-tang. If you want you can silence it completely with a lever projecting through a slot in the bottom blanking plate, with the 2 positions inscribed 'Striking' and 'Silent'

The dial, sadly, has 2 hairline cracks in the bottom right corner, and another one which is hidden by the case and bevel of the glass in the top left corner. It is signed Dent / 33 Cockspur St / London. The chapter ring has minute lines (replaced by diamonds at the quarter-hours and dots at the other hours) and roman hour numbers.

The back plate is unengraved apart from an arrow to show the direction in which to turn the hands.

The case is a Corniche one with an oval top glass.

The engraved inscriptiojn on the front of the base reads: Presented to Miss Dalbiac / by grateful members of the congregation / of West Tarring. /Feby. 12. 1887.

30-hr Timepiece Carriage Clock with alarm

This is an unsigned timepiece carriage clock with an alarm. The only marking on it is a '3' stamped on each of the movement plates. Unusually, there is only one winding arbor which winds the time mainspring with a clockwise action, and the alarm spring anticlockwise.

The alarm time is set by the button on the top - and re-setting the alarm time is the only way to turn it off.

It is almost certainly German, and has a pin pallet escapement.

Maximum dimensions: 106mm high (handle up) or 90mm (handle down) by 51.5mm wide by 45mm deep
